Glorifying the Mafia

The Godfather. The Sopranos. A Bronx Tail. Analyze This. Boardwalk Empire. Mob Wives. The list is endless of  television shows and movies that glorify the mafia. Mobsters in these movies are portrayed as handsome, slick, wealthy, and POWERFUL. The typical mobster shown in these movies and shows always have beautiful wives or girlfriends and 9 out of 10 times, they cheat on them and just as often, the women know. People living around them are afraid and looked at as unworthy. These men kill innocent people on a regular basis and do so like it's no big deal. What about this lifestyle is so intriguing to people?

Since we are a bunch teenage girls, I am going to assume the almost everyone has seen Mob Wives. If not, the title explains itself. The show is based around four women involved in this 'lifestyle.' They act like they are big and bad because their husbands or fathers led organizations that went out and killed people. They truly believe that they are looked at as royalty. And the saddest part about it?...They are. What good do they do for our cities? Why do people let themselves be so afraid? And why do we give them so much power?

  1. I am guilty of making these women feel like loyalty because I watch mob wives a lot ( it cracks me up), but the more attention they get the bigger and better they must feel. I feel like stuff like that happens a lot in the media, if someone is bad and dangerous for some reason it catches people's attention and then we focus more and more on that particular subject. Just like that disgusting youtube video that had quick fame about the "tampon girl". The video is something so absurd and disgusting but still so many people watched it and the girl had her 15 minutes of fame just as she planned. However back to the post, I agree it seems anyone who is associated with mafias feel they are better than the rest of the world. They probably feel so powerful because of "lifestyle" that they live and the "protection" they are receiving from there husbands or uncles or fathers or GODFATHERS. Is it really protecting the families though? Yes they kill off anyone that is on their "bad side" but, technically getting involved in the violence is risky for any family. Lastly just like you said, many mafia men are portrayed as handsome strong and sleek that may be a reason why they get so much attention.
